What is Machine Layout Plan?
In the apparel industry, production is the process of chain system for making a ready made garment. There are the number of sewing machines are depends on the number of process of a garments. Machine layout plan is the 1st priority for increasing the production. Production manager in the garments industry always set up machine layout plan for a specific garment item. Every machine layout plan is different according to the garment item. It is mainly a plan of sewing machine arrangement, which is useful to produce most amounts of garments in shortest time with minimal garment defects.
Remember that, the machine layout plan will be depend on the size and nature of the garments industry, the type of machinery used, and the production processes also involved. It is advisable to work with industrial engineers or layout design specialists to create the most efficient and effective machine layout plan for your specific garment production.
We can define machine layout plan as,
“Machine to be set up according to the process of garment is called machine layout.”
Some General Guidelines for Creating a Machine Layout Plan:
- Understanding the entire garment manufacturing process.
- Grouping the machines that perform similar or sequential operations.
- Ensure that there is a smooth flow of materials from one stage to the next.
- Ensure easy movement of workers and materials.
- Set up quality control points to ensure that products meet the required standards at different stages of production.
- Ensure that the layout complies with safety regulations.
- Design the machine layout with flexibility in mind.
- Ensure the placement of utilities such as electricity, water, and air supply.
- Machines should be arranged to allow easy access for maintenance.
- Plan for the movement of workers and materials.
- Ensure that there are effective communication channels between different workstations and departments in factory.
- Use visual management tools such as signs, labels, and color-coding to simplify navigation and understanding of the production process.
